1plex Takes on Apprentice

Following a very successful work experience placement, 1plex have offered Sam George an apprenticeship. Sam worked with 1plex initially on a one month work experience placement. He was placed at Cambridge Centre for Sixth-form Studies (CCSS) working with Prasanth Nair, who is the IT Support Engineer. 1plex have an IT support contract with CCSS to manage and support all of their IT needs. He shadowed Prasanth for 4 weeks concentrating primarily on first line IT support. When calls came into the helpdesk, Prasanth and Sam worked on them together in order to get Sam some basic troubleshooting experience. Sam immediately demonstrated a good aptitude for this type of work and formed an excellent relationship with Prasanth. During the work experience he proved a very worthwhile addition to the team and quickly developed the skills to work independently on helpdesk calls with minimal supervision. Sam also showed an aptitude for audio/video which is something 1plex is becoming more involved in through Lync Room Systems and Smart interactive panels. “The aim for Sam is to build expertise in IT support but also audio video meeting room solutions,” said Jonathon Ruston of 1plex. “During his apprenticeship we expect Sam to achieve MCT Microsoft qualifications and become accredited by Smart on their range of interactive devices.” Says Prasanth Nair: “It didn’t take long time for Sam to get into daily IT support activities here at CCSS as he is a quick learner with excellent skills. Now he is the first point of contact for first line support and has established a friendly relationship with the staff here. His skill development really shows is his ability to resolve IT issues in...

Lync Room System – Room PC View

Interesting development in the latest Lync Room System update…  For some time we’ve had customers interested in connecting Apple TV’s and similar such devices (Crestron air media etc) to the hdmi input on the Lync Room system. This worked ok but created an annoying problem in that by default the LRS always tried to present connected content in a call – often this wasn’t required and created a confusing meeting join experience for the user. As detailed below the latest update provides the ‘Room PC view’ (in my case above, apple TV would be the room PC) which enables the input from the HDMI connection to be toggled on and off. I’ll be updating the software on our demo SRS system asap to test this functionality, it looks like a welcome development.. See below Microsoft announcement for more details……..   Lync Room System June Update now available—new Room PC View! David Groom is a senior program manager for Skype. We continue to see incredible customer interest in Lync Room System (LRS). LRS has been in the market less than a year, and already partner solutions are available in more than 43 countries, from over 5,000 resellers. Also, many Fortune 100 Customers have deployed LRS, including large enterprises in oil, banking, beverages, shipping, technology, and pharmaceuticals. With all this interest, we’re excited to share the latest updates for Lync Room System. Starting with this update, we’re adopting a new versioning method, changing the version number from “15.xx” to “15.xx.x.” For example, the June Update is “15.10.0.” Under the old model, it would have been “15.10.” This new versioning method allows for greater granularity in...

Smart SRS

The Smart SRS ships with powerful external speakers which provide excellent quality audio in meeting rooms. We found however that the speakers were slightly overpowering in smaller meeting rooms so modified the configuration of one of our SRS-M’s to use the built in sound bar. Quality is still very good with the added bonus of a much more streamlined look to the screen. We wouldn’t recommend this in larger, noisy meeting rooms but in the smaller room it is a nice neat...

Vaddio EasyUSB Mixer/Amp + Pro Mic I/O

We’ve just taken delivery of the Vaddio EasyUSB Mixer/Amp and Pro Mic I/O to test with Lync in larger meeting spaces that require multiple mics and speakers. First test scheduled for these is in a Seminar room where we’ll be using a Crestron RL Lync room system coupled with interactive screens, projectors and the Vaddio devices to provide AV in a room designed for 60+ attendees. Watch this space for...
