Skype to Teams Migration

Challenge

UCB is a global pharmaceutical organisation with approximately 13,000 employees.

UCB was running an old legacy system of Skype for business and wanted to migrate to Microsoft Teams. With the Covid/Lockdown there was an urgency to be able to support their colleagues while working from home. A complete migration from Skype to teams is very complex as it affects the business across all locations. The lockdown meant UCB needed to act quickly to get the migration done as fast as possible.

UCB was looking for a partner that could offer a complete solution using Microsoft teams and associated technologies, which is exactly the service that 1plex provides. For this migration, MS  Teams was the core solution but there were other additional technologies needed to make the system work, like Anywhere 365 Contact Centre and Audiocodes for the telephony.

Solution

1plex proposed that the migration should be carried out in three phases.

Phase 1: an accelerated rollout for Calling and Conferencing globally, this affected approximately 15,000 users, to be completed in one month. Phase 2: the interaction with Public Telephony, the ability to make and receive calls.  Phase 3: to integrate the Contact Centre with MS Teams.

Following the main user migration, Phase 1, additional projects were required including: Telephone migration from Skype to Teams, Immersive video room upgrade to support Teams, migration to Cloud based Teams Contact Centre, and the migration of telephone services from ISDN to SIP trunk.

UCB have a very skilled in-house IT team that 1plex work in close partnership with. 1plex act as consultants providing project support for the delivery of regional sub-projects and monitoring of project KPIs. 1plex are accredited vendors for Microsoft Teams and AudioCodes. The 1plex differentiator is providing a single point of contact for all matters relating to the Teams installation which spans service providers, hardware providers and external consultants, all managed through the 1plex professional services offering.

Outcome

1plex achieved the migration to Teams and accelerated process to meet needs of a global company forced to work from home.

Teams provides significant savings in terms of travel but more importantly it enables remote teams to work effectively together even when working from home, bringing together a disparate workforce to work and communicate collaboratively.

1plex have a multi-year contract as UCB’s Unified Communications partner to continue developing and supporting the Teams ecosystem across all their global locations.
